I'm a college sophmore, a ripe 20 year old North American Raccoon. This fandom has helped me grow up a lot in the years I've been truly involved, and I find it's helped me with a lot of decisions I've made.
I'm attending college under a writing major to try and get into the world of professional editing. AutoCorrect does not catch every mistake one can make in a word document, and I've been given strong recommendations from my professors to look into finding an internship sometime soon. (My cousin works as an editor for the New York Times already, what luck!)
Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Build: Slim, not really toned. Working on that.
Body: A solid dark grey. Think a few shades shy of charcoal dust. Hair and Body hair is stark white.
Markings: As of yet no atypical markings from that of a raccoon. Black facemask with a white border, 'gloves', 'socks', Tail rings alternate with lighter grey and black.
Polyamorous, homosexual, relatively sweet and open minded. Enjoys games (especially the vidja), the paranormal, mythology and has a decent reading habit.
A furiend of mine some time back told me that Raccoons have a rep for being heartbreakers. I've seen other artwork proclaiming other stereotypes that follow species around in the fandom. Only recently did another friend tell me that he
A: Doesn't think my personality fits my species and
B: That aside from me he has only known 2 other raccoons; both were *ahem* Large, lecherous and creepy individuals.
So yeah, that doesn't sit right with me.
I've always kinda guessed that there was pseudo-racism in the fandom, little things that everyone thinks of other species, but recent events have piqued my curiosity.
Tell me viewers, from your experiences with other furs have you noticed any stereotypes and stigmas? Just how deep does this kind of speciesism go? No wrong answers, just differing ideas.
