ok, I heard this song, it was really good, story popped into my head, wrote it out, heard about this contest involving said song.........yeah, not ready for professional grading on my owrk yet, maybe next year, so, without further ado, my story, inspired by waltz into moonlight by tryad.
"Are you on your way to the gym?"
"yeah ma, see ya later."
"see you later dear." The kid picks up his pack and heads out the door walking the 10 blocks to the gym, the kid loved this city, it had its own rhythm that they have joined in on in a few ways, it helped them discover their own, which is why they did the dance class every time the gym had it, today they were early, they wanted to work on a new routine to show off to the instructor.
The kid heads up the stairs to the gym itself, heading to the lockers and changing into the unitard, grabbing their Mp3 player and armband holder, heading out to the floor, seeing no one there, strapping on the player and putting in the headphones and switching it to the song they've been working with for nearly a month now, waltz into the moonlight, the melody was simple enough, but getting the feeling into it was the spot they kept flubbing, closing their eyes and breathing in deeply, letting it run once, getting a feel for the rhythm, nodding their head and then standing and beginning to dance with it, allowing their mind to wander, allowing the body to respond with the rhythm and beat of the music, each move flowing freely from their heart, each step and twirl seeming to come forth from the soul.
They keep their eyes closed, knowing the gym boundaries well, dancing and enjoying the feeling of moving to the beat, keeping their eyes closed, not noticing the instructor coming in to set up for the class, seeing the display and sitting and watching it, enjoying the performance.
They danced to it fully, breathing a bit, nodding their head, and giving it one more go round, not paying attention to anything but the walls and the music, as the instructor watches, they make mental notes on posture and poise, watching the movements and seeing that the kid has come a long way from when they first started, nodding thier approval, the kid dances and breathes with the rhythm now, finding the moves and tempo they were after, enjoying themselves a bit longer, stopping as the song ends this time, breathing a bit hard as reality comes back to them, slipping off the headphones and starting as they hear applause behind them.
They turn and see the instructor applausing them, so they smile a bit and bow, walking over, turning off the song and talking with them, as they talk, the instructor gives a few minor critiques and then praises them for their hard work in organizing their own routine, also offering them a chance at a scholarship to the academy they work for if they can get the wrinkles worked out of their routine, they nod and accept heartily, thanking them for the opportunity and checking the time, promising themselves that they will work harder on it after the class and get the rest of the info from the instructor, filing away the headphones by wraping them in the player and doing some warm up moves, knowing that things were going to be brighter.
