The sound of african drums reached my ears to stir me from my sleep. I
leant an arm down the side of my bed and sleepily scooped up my iPhone,
the source of the sound. I used to have a much louder alarm sound but
I preferred this one, it was gentler and didn't startle me at 6:50
I sighed as I rolled myself out of bed and looked in the mirror,
not really paying attention to the tired fox in the reflection.
Mornings were not my forte. The only class worth getting up for today
was music, and only because I get to sit and play my guitar, a Gibson
Les Paul Special II, for an hour under the guise of practising my
composition. I smile at the thought and stumble into the bathroom. A
splash of warm water on my face wakes me up, and I actually feel good
even though it's 7am.
My morning routine consists of spending half an hour listening
to music in my room while I slowly get dressed, and another half hour
of eating, making lunch, and heading out the door at 8 to get to
school by 8.30.
My first two lessons went by in a flash Business Studies and
Physics. I spent both of them sitting and chatting to my friend James,
a black wolf, slightly taller than me but a little skinnier. His
fringe nearly covered his eyes, and he had a diagonal red streak
across it. That, coupled with his soft, grassy-green eyes made him
look cute, unfortunately he's straight, but a fox can dream.
When the bell rang at 10 for break I couldn't be happier. It was
March, but still pretty cold. I only had 15 minutes, but after 2 hours
of scribbling on paper and listening to some 'Holier Than Thou'
teacher ramble on at you for playing with your tail and "flirting with
that wolf beside you" any amount of time away is appreciated.
I spent my 15 minutes at break talking and generally goofing
around with some of my other friends. Telling jokes and playfully
ripping into each-other helps to relieve stress and fustration built
up during lessons, and as long as nobody gets offended then it's all
Now came my favorite lesson of the day. I tend to think of music
class as a free lesson. I'm either playing my guitar and enjoying
myself, or cracking more jokes with friends. I bundled through the
narrow door, purposely creating a tight squeeze with my friend Will.
"Oh for God sake Tom!" he jokingly groaned at me as we finally managed
to squeeze through. I would normall have playfully reacted, but as
soon as I saw him my mind went blank...
Who was this guy sitting in my chair? Regardless of who he was, he
was definitely cute. Our eyes met for a moment, but he looked away as
I walked over.
"Who's that guy in your chair" Will whispered to me. He had to stand
on tip-toes to get anywhere near my ear.
"I dunno, but he's..." I broke off, not wanting to say anything more.
Will wasn't gay or bisexual, and being the only openly bisexual guy in
my school that I knew of, I usually get playful remarks. I don't mind,
it's part of the parcel, and it's my friends that I know aren't being
"New kid" my friend Ollie quietly said. Not too quiet to deliberately
hide what he was saying, but just quiet enough for the subject of our
conversation to not hear.
The tiger saw me coming. I don't know how he knew I usually sat
there, but before I said anything he scooted up to the next chair.
"Thanks" I passively said to him. "Uhh... who're you? I've never seen
you before..?" I questioned him.
He was just about to reply, but was cut off by our teacher
raising his voice and requesting us to settle down.
"Ok class, we have a new pupil here today." The meerkat motioned his
hand to the tiger sitting next to me. "His name is Scy Thompson and
he's just moved here from London. Why don't you come up here and
introduce yourself to the class Scy? Tell us a bit about yourself."
Mr. Hudson didn't really give him much of a choice. Scy sheepishly
made his was up to the front of class and introduced himself.
"Hey, I'm Scy...." His voice was quiet, and even somebody with no eyes
could see he was nervous. He looked to the floor, avoiding looking at
anyone in the class.
I looked at the boy who had just stood up infront of the class. I
was stunned, he was one of the hottest guys I had ever seen. He was
about the same height as me, with deep ocean-blue eyes. As soon as he
looked back up they glistened in the sunlight streaming through the
windows. His fur was a perfect golden-orange colour, with dyed blue
headfur, the colour matched his eyes perfectly. One thing that caught
my eye was a black paw-shaped patch of fur on his wrist.
I realised that I was staring and averted my gaze. He padded back
over and sat down next to me.
"I like your name... I'm Tom by the way. If you need any help with
anything, or somebody to show you around then just feel free to
mention it to me." I smiled at him.
His ears stood attent at every word I said, but he didn't turn to
me until I'd finished speaking.
"Thanks Tom." The reply was short, but I could see he felt slightly
more comfortable now.
"So what kind of music are you into?" I kept the conversation going.
Just talking to this guy made me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
"Well, my favorite band is Pendulum. I sometimes listen to Metal, but
not so often. My parents find it weird so I tend not to when they're
around. What about you?" His voice was like velvet. Each word made me
melt a little more.
"I'm really into metal. I listen to Iron Maiden way too much, but also
really like Disturbed and Bring Me The Horizon. Pendulum are pretty
good." He smiled at that last part, he knew I'd been listening, and
not just pretending.
"Ok guys, you're carrying on with your composition projects today, get
too it! Ah, I almost forgot, somebody needs to help Scy." Mr Hudson
broadcasted to us.
"I'll look after him!" I nearly shouted at him. I wasn't going to miss
a chance to spend more time with this guy.
"Already hitting on the new guy?" Will decided to chime in. I just
poked my tongue out at him, but I could see Scy blushing through his
"That's sorted then..." Mr Hudson concluded and sat down behind his
I stood up and wandered off into a practise room with Scy in tow.
Finding any equipment in the music area was like a treasure hunt,
everything was so messy! I finally managed to track down an amp for my
guitar and started off playing The Trooper by Iron Maiden, one of my
favorite songs to play. Scy patiently watched my play the song, but I
could see he was getting kinda restless, he had nothing to do after all.
"You ok?" I asked him. He simply nodded in reply.
He stood up out of his chair and stretched, arching his back and
showing off his muscles. He cracked his knuckles as wandered over to
the drum kit and began to improvise along with what I was playing. I
was surprised. He hadn't mentioned her was a drummer, but he was damn
good and kept perfectly in time with me.
I looked up and grinned at him.
"Hidden talent eh? You're really good!" I had to shout to be heard
over the noise of the guitar and drums. He just smiled back, I didn't
expect much more, it's hard to talk and play at the same time. We
finished playing and I complimented Scy on how good he was.
"Thanks. You're awesome too." He beamed back at me.
There was a long pause, and I started doodling on my guitar.
"Can I ask you something..?"
I nodded in reply and carried on doodling.
"What your friend said in there, the racoon, was he being serious? Are
you really gay?" The question was slow, and took him the best part of
a minute to ask. I could tell he was nervous about asking me, and was
blushing as the words left is muzzle.
"Well, I'm not gay, I'm bisexual. It's a well known fact around here,
but I never get anything for it, except little bits off my friends
like just a moment ago. What about you? I assume you're straight?"
"Well... Umm... About that..." He stammered, looking at the ground,
completely avoiding seeing me.
I slowly leaned over and stroked his paw with mine, and he closed
his around it. My heart fluttered with anxiety. He's holding my hand.
He's really holding my hand!
After a long time of just holding my hand and staring at the floor he
finally spoke up.
"The reason I moved here was because I was getting bullied at my old
school. I'm gay."
He looked as if he was about to burst into tears. I leaned my
guitar against the table and leaned into him, embracing the sobbing
"It's alright Scy. Nobody's going to bully you here. If anybody says
something you don't like, just tell me. You can talk to me about
anything hun, and I wont tell anyone anything."
I kissed his cheek and he blushed scarlet red.
"Tom... There's something else aswell... I've only known you for 45
minutes... but this feels so right and..." He suddenly leaned towards
me and pressed his lips against mine. My eyes opened wide with shock.
I couldn't believe what was happening.
I could feel his tongue creeping into my maw, and I let it
inside. It felt so wonderful, exploring eachother mouths with out
tongues. I melted into him, his fantastic kiss, and I never wanted it
