Disclaimer: The screenshots here are of the private beta and do not represent the final thing - if there ever is such a thing with SoFurry 2.0 anyway, considering we'll be improving the site for years to come ;) But yeah, small layout mistakes aside, the important thing is that everything you see here works!
Let's start with the revised art uploader:
This should be a lot clearer and easier to user than our earlier version.
Viewing artwork on SoFurry is one of the core experiences and we've worked hard to make it a smooth one. You'll notice that groups have icons now to make them easier to recognize. Everything on this page has been optimized to not detract from the actual image while still offering you all the functionality you know from SoFurry 1.0 - Not an easy task considering SoFurry's exhaustive set of features. Comments, votes, faves... it all happens seamlessly and without interrupting your browsing with another page reload - yet it remains compatible with non-JS browsers. Clicking on the image gives you the full SFHD experience with smooth zooming, panning and browsing. Or you can browse the artist's other art right below the image.
The private messaging interface. The important thing to note is that the outbox is a true outbox (messages don't vanish if deleted by the recipient) and the entire system is based around conversations instead of individual messages. No more quoting huge blocks of quotes of quotes of quotes. Note that there will be more features in the near future here, as well as further changes in the list layout.
Sending a PM but can't remember the exact spelling of the user's name? No problem, SF 2.0 autocompletes and offers suggestions for many things, including usernames!
The new notification center! Here you can manage incoming friend requests, see new shouts, comments, and so much more. It's a much clearer layout than in 1.0 - and much more powerful too. Note that you can set which notifications to also receive as email and even SMS in your SF 2.0 settings.
As far as the public beta is concerned, it's not long now. We still have to work on the chat, the forum needs the remaining bits to be done, we have a dedicated developer working to make our epub export for stories the best one you've ever seen. The new market and groups are done, and require finetuning and polishing. When that's done and we're convinced that your first impression will be a good one, the SF 2.0 public beta will be launched.
There's one more thing: We are looking for another PHP developer to join the SF coding team. If you are good with PHP and OOP, preferably have some experience with Yii or other frameworks, have your own dreams and ideas that you'd love to realize in a site with a big userbase, and are self-motivated and like to work in a team, shoot me a message!
