Unfortunately, at the zoo near where I live, years ago a middle-aged woman walked over two barriers and petted an elderly wolf who lived in the wolf pen, and the wolf reacted by biting her wrist and not letting go. To get her free, they had no choice but to shoot and kill the poor wolf.
thats because she was stupid and went past boundaries to get to a "wild" animal. its sad that her bad decision ended a life.
these wolves have human contact every day. and not just from "zookeepers" but many people. and these are wolves and wolfdogs who have lived in homes before but owners couldnt keep them for some reason, so they come here. i have no fear at all when i visit these wolves.
There's a similar place over here on the west coast called Wolf Mountain Sanctuary. I have had the good fortune to be able to visit there once this past December, and having gotten a taste of what it's like interacting with these creatures, I'm definitely gonna have to go back more than once.
