Calamity Rising

Ok, what can I say? I'm back!!!
Back and ready to present my latest TRADITIONAL piece of art: "Calamity Rising" - my first traditional piece in 2012!

Finally, I found time and inspiration to do a "scene" with landscape, wide angle and countless characters again.
Kyle and Reptile are standing on a high cliff... gazing down at a huge army of Barbarians. Will they be able to stop this army? The battle is about to begin...

Media used:
Pencils, Inks, Markers, Acrylics (and NO digital stuff this time!)

Working time:
about 40 hours
"Reptile Cynrik" is © Patrick Reichel aka avatar?user=12860&character=0&clevel=0 ReptileCynrik

NOTES:

1.) This artwork here is a prelude to the drawing "Final Blow":

Hey, you know me, I love your traditional work. :3
And as my soft spot for fantasy, you make many harmonious art pictures that just keep entrancing my eyes. :3

Oh my golly gosh, that's awesome!! I love the backdrop, it's like a medieval tapestry. Quite simply awesome. I wouldn't want to live in those days mind, no Ford Capris *the sergal caresses the bonnet of his precious Capri*. I'd be rude not to fave or vote

You sir do know how t make on hell of an illustration like image or Comic book cover which ever. I think the thickness of colors and the details alone being done in this traditional style are excellent. Also based on what I am looking at the nature of this battle and the amount of enemy have just gained a hundredfold from even my initial thoughts, well done. :) :+fav:

Thank you very much!!!!!! ^__^ Well, I'm not able to do these kind of artworks very OFTEN... but twice or three times a year, it's a welcome change from my "simple" digital works.

And it is for that reason why I like when I see traditional pics; sure digital is all and new, but traditional has been around for thousands of years and still has something that is desired, a lot to be said in that.

It is interesting how, just a week ago, I was standing on a high cliff, gazing at the valley below as the sun set a crimson red on the horizon in front of me. I was standing, bearing the ever more bitter-cold air as the wind swept up from the water falls far below me when I imagined the horde of enemies--people of the new world--encroaching on my clan's camp and temporary safe hold. I knew that there would be battle to come--we had no choice. I knew that may be my end, and the end of my people, but I had to fight as running was no more an option. We had to stop them from advancing... We had to stop them, from taking our souls.
As the sun finally dipped below the horizon, I knew I had to return to camp. I had best be getting my night's rest as soon it would be needed to survive. The air was cold and clouds began to settle in from the north as I ponder my fate. A snow flake wandered across my path signalling the coming of a midwinter white out.

Just a week ago (maybe two weeks) I was thinking that, and then you post up this!
Fascinating!
I love the imagery!
So is it just Reppy and Kyle that are taking on the whole army? That might be a bit challenging, I'd assume!
Wundervoll!!

I like your choice of color for the trees with a little bit more blue instead of a flat green. How did you do the sky, is it a wash? And something else that just occurred to me, how tall, exactly, is reptile?

Yay, thanks for the long and sophisticated comment!!! ^____^ *hugs*
Well, what can I say... but THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool, that you were able to share the impression... sorta. ^^"

And nooo, REPTILE and KYLE do have thousands of men at their disposal, too. ;)

The sky is my personal technique... it's done by coloured pencils. I paint a piece of paper full with colour, take a tissue then and "get" the colour I need on my finger tip... and then I "brush" over the original paper. :D That's how I get such a smooth gradient.

Reptile's height is about 210 cm! ^^

I'm curious (always asking questions, sorry)
What inspires pieces like this in you?

I mean, I write because I'm not...satisfied with today's world. It's too mundane, and everything's too easy. No one believes in dragons anymore, there's always a waning sense of honor (or, in the U.S. none at all), and dreams of being an epic hero are crushed as soon as we leave child hood. I think it would be cool to go back to a time before the television took over; a time where conquest and adventure were not so far from the norm..... That's why I write a lot of the things that I do.

You have this whole world you've created and I just wondered what the original inspiration for it was/is. ^__^

As a matter of fact, I just wanted to do a "scene with landscape" again... going away from the "poser artworks" and just a calm, yet intense landscape. ^^
Also, I was browsing through my "sky photos" and thought: Yesss, I need to draw such a cool evening sky myself!

Furthermore, I was looking at these pictures lately:
http://reptile-universum.de/reptile_bilder/Comics/Comic%204%20UK/Seite20.jpg
http://reptile-universum.de/reptile_bilder/Comics/Comic%206/Seite37.jpg
http://reptile-universum.de/reptile_bilder/Artwork/Pinups/ShoreLeave.jpg

The last picture made my mind "snap" and I wanted to have a new "gazing down a cliff" artwork. Also, I needed a new picture to continue my latest story!! ^__^

Yes, I am an illustrator, after all..... ;-)

I've always loved Shore Leave, seeing it again reminds me now of looking down into Sedona, Arizona from the northern cliffs and it makes me happy and wishing I was there again!

Have you done a picture where the primary focus is the sunset/sunrise itself? I'd imagine so, but I've yet to see one ^__^

Interesting enough is that...if it was just two of them...and this was a video game...99% out of 100% of the time...we'd know that they would win. Not just because of luck and/or valor...but because they'd pull out impossible tactics and very beautiful swordplay and kill up everybody. This is what I call awesome artwork!

Hehehe... yeah, just like the "LORD OF THE RINGS" games: you fight 1.000.000 orcs all by yourself. ^^
THANKS for the comment! Glad you like it. :)

OH NO! WATCH OUT! Cyn's going back to traditional!

Man, very nicely done. Very breathtaking. Why can I imagine the both of them just charging down there? Ha! Reptile would be taking on, what, 5 people at once? Heh.
ReptileCynrik 2 years ago 0
Hehehe. Hey, I was never GONE to begin with!!! ;) And I still keep my traditional style.
THANKS very much for the comment. ^___^
