(Hey guys :3 this is a new story I've been working on so I really hope you guys like it and it was really fun to write >:3)
Long ago four kingdoms constantly battled another in vicious and gory wars. One kingdom's war general couldn't stand the thought of so many innocent people dying because of raids and battles. People from his kingdom his friends and family were all being killed off due to foolish conflicts. But what he didn't understand the most was his kingdom had many trained experienced magic users and masters so why was his kingdom being killed off. He didn't know he was running out of options and with no where else to turn he opened a portal to the netherworld. He knew that even attempting to grasp the uncontrolled power of the nether was forbidden and dangerous but he had too what else could he do to save his kingdom? He ventured deep into the very heart of the nether world and he saw it. The crimson ruby that held the power he desired and sought out. He grasped it and at once dark power began to flow into him. For a moment he thought he could control it but sadly it overpowered him in a matter of seconds. All his thoughts of what was good and wrong were obliterated and replaced by a unquenchable blood lust. With the blood colored ruby embedded in his chest he returned to his kingdom and set out against the opposing kingdoms. When he saw the hundreds of struggles on the battle field he smirked and called his troops back to the base. Once the soldiers had retreated he blaster the opposing forces with a huge wave of fire scorching the land and anyone that stood in the flame's wake. He returned to the kingdom a war hero respected and loved by all. But that didn't last long either the entire kingdom gathered in celebration of his glorious win against the kingdoms. his teachers and masters noticed something different about him. A small girl walked up to the now cursed general a smile on her little face. "Mister how did you do it how did you save the kingdom?" she asked jumping anxiously. He turned around a wicked look on his face and lifted his paw "How would you like to experience first hand how I did it?" he said the girl had a shocked expression on her face and turned to run but it was to late a blast of fire had already engulfed her. The girl's screams echoed throughout the kingdom and followed by it were laughs terrible fouls sounding laughs. The kingdom stood motionless and silent in horror at what had just happened how could the beloved hero kill an innocent girl for no apparent reason? The people ran at a master's waning to get away as fast as you could. Many escaped but some were rather too slow or refused to leave and refused to accept that it was the same man. the general layed siege to the neighboring kingdoms and killed them off to near extinction leaving them burnt broken ruins. The grand mage's and trainees were called in to come up with at least a little bit of something to stop the murderous rampage that was set out. Finally after months of research and efforts to keep the killings down they devised a solution. Every person has at least some magic capabilities regardless of who they are so they devised seals to allow the person who rather doesn't have high enough magic on their own or doesn't know it to access and amplify that power. But Careful examination and testing must be done before one can receive a mark as they now called it because it would mark the end of the bloodthirsty murders. After about 150 had been gathered, tested, and given a mark they set out. There were now more servants of the nether along with the original and each and every one of them had been rather forced into it by life threats or because with this newfound power they felt they had no fear no worry. But what they agreed to binded them for the rest of their mortal lives and influenced where they would spend the next. A full out war erupted and both sides suffered many losses the land now scared from the battle The Marked emerged victorious in the end but they had not won forever they thought they killed the one who started it all but they had only killed off his followers what they didn't know is that he survived and each day from then on forth he was gathering new people to his devious cause slowly building an army and would soon release it onto the world. Many tales had been crafted to keep the dark truth of it all secret many believed the wars went on and on and the scorch marks came from newly developed explosives. My story though begins about two years ago when I was thrown head long into this new reality I know now.
A huge boom of thunder sounded outside as rain pounded against the school building crackles of lightning rising above all the rest. I sighed leaning back in my seat feeling bored both with the thunder and of class my eyes starting dropping down sleepily. That was until I heard a scared yelp from beside me I opened one eye and saw that Katsu ever afraid of thunder was close to having a panic attack....again.
"I knew you were afraid of thunder but seriously it's just thunder" I said with a sigh
"So it's still scary!" Katsu yelled back looking around expecting the next huge boom of thunder and as it did a huge boom of thunder roared from the sky above sending Katsu to the floor of his chair with a yelp. The teacher immediately stopped writing and gave Katsu an evil glare.
"Really? Really? You're acting like a two year old sit back in your seat now!" She screamed
"I can't help it it scares me!" he yelled in response
"Shriveled up she-witch" Katsu quipped with a smile. The teacher ever ignorant ignored it and resumed writing our homework assignment on the board.
The rest of the day was filled with Katsu getting scared by thunder teachers yelling and sarcastic remarks right back from Katsu which I found hilarious but the teachers not so much. When it was finally time to leave Katsu had received at least 50 detention threats 40 coming from one teacher in specific Mrs .Harrison our social studies teacher who absolutely despises him. I had no idea why she hated him so much but she just did in fact she hated just about everyone except out math teacher who has been rumored to be her boy friend. Katsu and I stepped onto the bus and sat in seat 8 we watched as the town flew by and I was a bit disappointed by what I saw it was boring and dull this time of year.
When we finally reached my house which was at the end of the street, it was a bit expensive being built of oak wood and had been remodeled at least 10 times in the past year. It now was painted a light green color to go with the upcoming spring and had pink shutters again a spring color. The interior though was decorated with top class dining tables a glass coffee table at the center of the living room accompanied by two glass stands at the ends of two leather couches. In the dining room a solid oak table and 6 oak chairs was seated at the middle of the room which went with the cherry stained solid wood floors. We walked in and spotted my mother a tan furred wolf who was in her mid thirties but her body looked early twenties. She was sitting on the couch and had a old looking book sprawled out in front of her and she was staring at its contents inventively.
She barely even noticed the door close as we walked in as soon as it closed she snapped her attention from the book straight to me. She smiled but the worry in her eyes didn't fade
"Yuukan welcome home" she said in a tender loving voice as I seated myself on the couch next to her
"Thanks mom" I said and gave her a light hug she stood and motioned for me to follower her to the kitchen Katsu tried to follow but she waved him off and he sat on the couch. She sighed still looking troubled by what I didn't know
"Yuukan honey I know your 14 now and you're getting very big" she began "But I need to talk to you because you're of age now".
"Of age?" I echoed and she nodded
"Have you ever heard of the legend of The Marked and The servants of Hell?" she asked
"Yeah we were learning about it today in social studies it's a pretty crazy legend huh? Though I really don't believe in any of it".
She smiled "Well that's only because what you've been told isn't the truth at all"
"Um what?" I asked confused and she went into detail the true legend of what The Marked were and what their purpose was also she said that they've been growing stronger over the years attracting many to their evil cause. and that for every act of evil they grow stronger thriving off of other's sorrow pain and misery.
And I almost fell backwards when she told me that I was one of The Marked
"I-I'm what?" I stuttered
"You're A Marked you have the bloodline now all your missing is your mark" she said with a smile "All I need to do is evaluate you to see how strong of a mark you can withstand". I was confused and a bit scared but more curious than anything I wanted to see what this was all about and what kind of power a mark would unlock for me. So I let her evaluate me she literally looked straight into my soul seeing how powerful it was seeing how loyal, trustworthy, and courageous I was. when it was finally all over she smiled and looked at me pride in her eyes
"Well well well looks like you'll have a pretty powerful one impressive being so young most people choose to wait but at the moment we can't afford to wait any longer" she said half smiling half frowning. She moved forward carrying a strange tool that resembled a marker almost but it had a pointed tip. "Now relax it'll hurt a bit" she dug the tool into my wrist at first I felt the pain of the metal driving into my wrist but then it faded and a design blossomed out onto my wrist.
The design had a snowflake at the center intricate lines swirled around it making it look almost like a blizzard it shined and pulsated and my mom smiled. "That mark is very special very few can handle ones that hold the very power of an element within them you now wield the power of ice and along with it can do many other things with training we will unlock the secrets hidden with in you in time" she smiled again and patted my head. We heard a loud slam and a yelp of pain we snuck out into the living room where an unconscious Katsu lay and three disgruntled looking men filed in one was a fox one a husky and one a horse. My mom gasped and slunk low "Damn!" she swore out "I Forgot to give you your weapon" she ran back into the kitchen down into the basement I followed her running as quickly and silently as I could.
She pulled out a sickle chain and handed it to me "I always thought of you as someone who would use one of these it suits you" she unsheathed a medium lengthed blade that had a gold hilt."B-but Mom who were those people?" I asked
"Servants I could tell by the black aura they emit now let's go it's rather kill or be killed with theses guys ok so let's get going" she ran up the steps and as soon as she did her step slowed into a steady creep the men were searching everything from couches to vases. She grinned and dug the blade deep into the foxes spine pulled it back and slashed at the startled horse who let out a whine of pain before falling to the ground dead. I didn't know why at the time but the battle called out to me welcoming me I ran and wrapped the chain around the husky and plunged the blade into his leg. I could hear bone breaking muscle ripping and blood gushing out of the fresh wound it was exciting and.... I wanted more. Unfortunately I got more than I wanted servants surrounded us rushing in through breaking windows it all happened so fast I didn't even know what was happening the next thing I knew my mom was being carried out painfully with small blades digging into her arms and legs.
They didn't know I had a mark yet so they hit me hard on the head I fell forward and darkness began to swallow my vision I wanted to cry out to my mom. I wanted to get her free to save her but I couldn't my body was overwhelmed with pain and wouldn't move even then I knew a dagger was buried in my arm. I couldn't do a thing I felt powerless and weak and wanted to do nothing more but scream but I finally lost consciousness falling into the inky blackness.
