One misjudgment may be the downfall of an entire world, friends torn apart, things become difficult...
Dameon sat overlooking the plains from the tallest rock he could jump to. Without wings, he was beginning to feel like even less of the god he once was. His eyes couldn't change color anymore, his limbs couldn't be detached (at least not naturally)...it was all very different.
But what could he do? At least he had skin again, and organs that weren't metal. Those were good things right? And hey! Now he could swim without corroding, use Band-Aids instead of solder for his wounds, and even eat real food! It made him smile, something he hadn't really been able to do for the longest time...
Lost in thought as he was, he didn't hear the small scratching of claws against the rocks near him...
One particularly loud scratch got his attention and he spun to face the noise, claws extended and aggressively aimed at...his son...
"Dexter?" he asked, brushing his long, black hair from his face. "What are you doing out here?"
"I was seeing how high the mountain went," the little reptile explained. "Sorry if I barged in on you or something..."
He turned to leave when Dameon retracted his bladelike talons.
"No, you didn't disturb anything," he said with a smile. "This mountain is as much yours as it is mine."
"Mind if I hang around?" he asked. Dameon shrugged.
"As long as you're not afraid of heights," he asked with a smile. The two sat back down. "So, what's happening back down on earth?"
"Ah nothing," Dex said. "They're just...being themselves..."
"Where's your sister?" he asked.
"Off doing something with mom, said it was girl-stuff and that I couldn't come along," the young Komodo Dragon said with a shrug. "I mean...whatever, I guess..."
"I see," Dameon said, thinking. "Well, if they're off doing girl-stuff, what do you say to us going off to do guy-stuff?"
"That sounds gay," Dexter said emotionlessly. Dameon's head slumped.
"You're like a constant downer huh?" he asked with a small chuckle. In truth, his children had been very difficult to be around since they were retrieved from Grimlock's miserable clutches. Dexter had been quiet, aloof, broody, and Kerrigan hasn't said a word since, but she was far more smiley and cheery when she wanted to be! It was an odd connection between the two, but they connected better with eachother than with anyone else...
Dameon had learned to live with it, trying when he could to make some kind of pathway to them...but he just didn't know how. He had never been the best mediator, and certainly he had no idea what the hell kind of sensitivity was required to make someone feel better! So whenever they talked, he talked back to the very best of his abilities...
"It would seem that way," Dexter said, consistently monotone. "So..."
"So..." Dameon said, looking down over the plains and kicking his legs childishly. "What's up?"
"Nothing," his son said. "Mom took away my slingshot yesterday."
"What for?" Dameon asked. This was the most conversation he had gotten out of his son in the whole time he had known him!
"Shot a bird," he said.
"Why'd you do that?" Dameon asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I heard you all talking about not having a lot of food left...so I thought I'd go out and get some..." Dex said, shrugging.
"Well, that was noble," Dameon said with an agreeable nod. "I'll get her to give it back, don't worry."
"Good luck with that," he said with a laugh. Dameon almost jumped! A laugh? From Dexter? Impossible!
"I think I'll be successful," Dameon said, trying to continue as long as he could with this conversation. "After all, she was never able to take my weapons away..."
"You had weapons?" Dex asked, actually interested. He had never seen his father in action before, he was always either stuck in box or watching Eveser doing all the fighting! As ridiculous as this sounds, he had no idea what his father was actually capable of!
"Oh yea," Dameon said with a grin. "Still do! I used to be a walking engine of destruction...believe me..."
"Yea right," Dexter said with a scoff and rolled his eyes.
"I'm serious!" Dameon urged, still smiling. "You don't believe me?"
"No offense, Dameon," Dexter said. "I've seen you do a lot of things but I've never seen you fight..."
Dameon couldn't help but laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of the situation! He had to hold a claw over his mouth to keep himself from waking up the entire Carnian Empire!
"Oh contraire little monkey," Dameon laughed. "You have no idea..."
"Prove me wrong," Dex dared him. Dameon laugh slowed to a trickle and his face took on that of an amusing grin.
"Challenge accepted," Dameon's pointy teeth glinted in the waning daylight. He cracked his neck, knuckles, back, then stood up...
From the house, everyone heard only a small fizzle, and then a loud boom as a green burst of light decimated the mountaintop opposite them! They leapt into battle formations, preparing to defend against what they thought was a Carnian attack!
Eve rushed outside and leapt up into the air, trying to find the source of the energy ball. He traced the beam's smoke trail up to a high peak at the mountain's sheer walls, and then his jaw dropped...
"I don't believe it..." Eve muttered. Dameon and Dexter were rolling on the ground laughing!
"Hahahahahaha that was the most fun I've had all day!" Dameon held his ribs and laughed like he used to back when he would blow up a structure for the fun of it. "It's been so many years..."
Dexter was on his back, laughing as well.
"I...I can't breath hahahahaha!" he was practically crying with laughter. Eve landed next to them.
"I don't know what's more terrifying: the fact that you could've just alerted Dirge to our position, or that you two are actually happy together," Eve said, rubbing the bridge of his snout with his claws.
"Oh lighten up, Eveser! Haha! We're just having fun," Dameon said, his breaths coming in ragged gasps.
"Lighten up? Dameon you just blew up a mountain!" Eve said astonished that Dameon didn't realize how serious this was! "There could've been a thousand Carnian patrols searching right around the corner, you have no idea how dangerous that was!"
"Don't treat me like a child, Eveser," Dameon said, standing up. His laughing stopped. "I'm aware of the potential threats against us every day--"
"No, I don't think you are!" Eve said angrily. "That was easily the stupidest thing I've ever seen you do! Dammit Dameon!"
"Hey I apologized didn't I?" Dameon snarled back.
"Apologizing to me won't fix anything if someone actually did see that!" Eve turned away, still fuming. "Grow up Dameon..."
He was flying away when he was struck without warning by a small arc of green light! The black dragon turned around slowly to see Dameon tossing a small ball of green smoke in his palm like a softball.
"Bite me," Dameon said, baring his conical teeth. Eve had had enough! With a roar he flung himself at his friend with incredible force!
Dameon hurled the ball, but Eve easily dodged it and slammed into him. He carried him high into the sky, soaring past layers and layers of cushiony cloud cover. Dameon was still winded from the tackle, but he shook it off and in seconds was aware of his surroundings.
With a vicious snarl, he drove his teeth into Eve's shoulder, drawing out a large spray of thick blood. Eve released him immediately with a painful bellow, sending Dameon free-falling to the ground below!
Dameon fell towards the earth at breakneck speed, blinking to keep the wind from his new, organic eyes...
He couldn't see, and he couldn't stop himself from falling! He felt so helpless...
"No!" he cried and held out his palms, forcing as much power as he could into them! His clawed hands became alight with his signature color, and suddenly he felt himself slowing! With a smile of vicious achievement he force-stopped his freefall and searched the skies for the dragon.
He noticed a small flash of light from his peripheral vision and looked behind him just in time to see a fireball hurtling at him! He couldn't dodge, and the fireball quickly swallowed him up!
He was knocked out of the sky again, but quickly caught himself and glared around angrily.
"No more hiding!" he shouted furiously and slammed his claws together. Immediately the clouds dispersed like frightened mice, disappearing in the air and revealing the black reptilian's position! "Miserable coward!"
Dameon flew towards him, palm outstretched. Eve swung his body to the side and his fist forwards as Dameon passed him, aiming for his head. The strike was blocked by Dameon's muscular forearm and Eve felt a sharp blow to his torso.
Dameon had brought his knee into the dragon's scaly chest as he blocked his attack, forcing Eve to double over for a second.
"Aww, did that hurt?" Dameon asked, snarling. Eve glared up at him, his eyes burning...
When the others came out, the saw a sight they wished they'd never have to witness...
Eve and Dameon were nothing but flashes of light and blurs, occasional bursts of orange flames and green blasts. They zipped at eachother with incredible speeds, striking and blocking and kicking and dodging so fast that it looked almost unreal!
"What are they doing?!" Cyllea asked. Teya, Holi, Darrow, and Kerrigan were watching wide-eyed as their two companions traded blows just a few hundred feet above them!
"Dad got angry," Dexter said, strolling up to the others. Everyone looked down at him in awe. He had NEVER called Dameon "dad" before...
"What happened?" Holi asked worriedly.
"Eveser made dad angry," he said, watching the spectacle. "That's about all there is to it..."
They looked back and tried to follow the fight, but no one's eyes could move that quickly save for Darrow's. He watched Dameon throw a hook-kick at Eve's head, miss, and then block the heavy tail that was swung at him in response! He watched Eve hurl a fireball at Dameon, who zipped backwards and dispersed it with his claws, then fly at him with his massive jaws agape in rage! It was harrowing...
"They're going to kill eachother!" Teya cried in fear.
"Cyllea! Do something!" Holi cried, tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes as another bright green flash sent Eve flipping backwards, only to charge back seconds later.
Cyllea eyes darted around for a moment before her jaw set and she leapt into the air! She flew as high as she could and located both of the combatants, still beating the life out of eachother. In a split second, she saw their limbs flying at one another so fast she could barely follow it! She had no idea what she would do, but she hoped it would be enough...
She soared down between the two of them as they made their next passes for eachother and held out her front paws aggressively!
"STOP!" she cried. Eve and Dameon ground to a halt on either side, glaring at her and eachother furiously.
"Get out of the way Cyllea," Eve commanded.
"This is between me and him," Dameon snarled viciously.
"I'm not going to stand idly by and watch you two murder eachother!" she yelled, equally enraged. "We're supposed to be on the same damn sides here!"
Dameon panted heavily, blood flowing from his mouth and left eye. He stared at Cyllea, then at his target with slowly diminishing fury.
Eve was battered as well, holding his chest and sporting a very nasty laceration from his top lip to his horn.
"Now please...please...please stop," Cyllea said quietly. Her voice was heavy; they could tell she was seconds away from crying. Dameon looked down and spat blood onto the far-away dirt, then he huffed angrily and began floating down to the house again.
Eve hovered closer to Cyllea and held her.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean to scare you..."
Cyllea just held him and helped him land on the ground once more.
"What the fuck were you two thinking?!" Holi screamed as Dameon and Eve sat on opposite ends of the main table, each having their wounds tended to by either Teya or Darrow.
Both were silent, ruefully glaring at the other one.
"You could've killed yourselves, then where would we be?" Cyllea was just as angry. "Without the both of you we stand no chance against Carnia!"
"Not to mention the simple little fact that we love you!" Holi cried, holding back her tears.
"We weren't going to kill eachother," Dameon muttered. "I wouldn't have made the final strike."
"Neither would I," Eve said, wincing as his wound began to bleed again. "We just had to get some things out of the way."
"And those things involved beating eachother to a bloody pulp?" Cyllea asked, still in sarcastic disbelief.
"He started it!" the two said in unison and pointed at eachother. They glared at eachother then hissed and turned away.
"I don't believe this," Cyllea said, shaking her head. "I thought I fell in love with a man, not a child!"
Eve growled and turned away, walking down the hallway to his room. Dameon stood up as well, hobbling out to the courtyard to spend the rest of the night sulking.
The room seemed to become a little less tense as the two aggressors left the room. Darrow, Cyllea, Teya, and Holi all stood around the table silently.
"I think they'll work it out," Darrow whispered. "They always used to."
"Back then they would have actually killed eachother," Cyllea said with a look of shock, still in disbelief over the night they had.
"We can only hope they figure things out," Teya said hopefully.
"We can...and we WILL...do a fuckload more than that, hun," Holi shook Teya's shoulder gently.
"Did you see that?" Dirge's cold voice hovered in the cool night air. Oxide and Grimlock stood on either side of him, looking out over the region to which he was pointing.
"See what?" Grimlock asked.
"Over there, a light," Dirge said quietly. "I think a mountain just disappeared..."
"What?" Grimlock asked with a chuckle and looked intently. His eyebrows raised in slight shock. "Wow...I think you might be right, my Lord..."
"What in Carnia could have done that?" Oxide asked. "Do we have anything over there?"
"Nothing that could destroy a mountain," Dirge chuckled. "I mean the whole thing is actually GONE! As in, completely gone..."
"Impressive power," Grimlock mused. "You don't think..."
"Here? So close to MY PALACE?" Dirge asked with a laugh. "You must be joking...I give Eveser far too much credit for such stupidity...unless..."
"Unless?" Oxide asked.
"Reverse psychology?" Dirge suggested. "You don't think he's actually been hiding under our noses for seven years do you? Literally in our backyard?"
"It would be incredibly stupid, insanely lazy, or ridiculously intelligent...take your pick my Lord," Grimlock chuckled. Dirge growled.
"I don't like the sound of that," Dirge snarled uneasily. "Oxide, take a patrol out ASAP, bring Kyasha with you as well. If it DOES turn out to be...well...if you DO find THEM...you return here instantly, do you understand?"
"Very well my Lord," Oxide bowed and dissipated. He reappeared in the throneroom, just a few paces from Kyasha's bedroom. He paced briskly to her door and wrapped his white knuckles against the wooden frame. There was no answer. He placed the side of his head against the wood and listened for sounds of life...
Oh were there sounds of life...
"Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh fuck yes!" Kyasha moaned. "Faster! Fuck me faster! Yea! Harder! Oh fuck yea!"
"Lady Merrick?" Oxide called softly. Her moans stopped instantly.
"What?!" she cried, clearly very irritated.
"It's very important," Oxide coaxed. Finally he heard angry stomping and the door swung open.
"This better be straight from Gride himself, construct," the vixen was wrapped up in a sheet, her long hair frazzled and messy. Oxide could see over her shoulder and watched Kane light a cigarette and take a long drag. He was laying on her bed, relaxing with the comforter over his lower half, a suspicious bulge protruding from within.
"I'm afraid it is," Oxide said, clearly enjoying the chaos and irritation he was bringing into the life of another creature.
"Fine," Kyasha hung her head. "Gimme twenty minutes to get ready..."
She slammed the door in the construct's face, misshaping it momentarily. Oxide grinned and walked back down the hall as the sounds of intensely rough sex resumed beyond the wooden block.
